Bugs & Windshields“Sometimes you’re the windshield; sometimes you’re the bug.”  You get the point. These lyrics are from an old Mary Chapin-Carpenter song.  They came to mind recently as another trial in this already difficult year began.  I’ve been the windshield for some time – cruising along, feeling resistant to trouble and suffering.  I’m more like the bug now…still cruising along, but feeling vulnerable and uncertain.  Trials in our lives are inevitable. Sometimes we see them coming and try to prepare for them.  Other times, they come up from behind and pull the rug right out from under us.  Jesus never said our trials would be easy, but regardless of what they are, He does promise to always be with us and to see us through. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. (Isaiah 43:2)

Whatever you are facing today – financial difficulties, the illness of a family member, conflict with another person, or perhaps you feel like you’re drowning in the busyness of your daily routine, remember that your strength comes from the Lord and along with it comes the grace to face your trial.  And you are not facing it alone.  No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you… Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:5; 9) Don’t let the windshield stop you. Go forth and know God is with you.
